Open opening data
This dataset is a CSV file with 750 rows, one for each opening we cover at Planchetto. The figures are from September 2026. You can open it in any spreadsheet or load it into your own code. The public means Lichess players rated 900 to 1700, the same range our opening pages are written for.
Each of the 750 rows has these columns:
- id
- a stable identifier for the opening. Use it to join the file with your own tables.
- name_en and name_es
- the opening's name in English and in Spanish.
- eco
- its code in the ECO classification.
- moves
- the moves that reach the position, in English algebraic notation.
- data_level
- the data level of the row. It tells you how much information sits behind its figures.
- public_games
- public games that reach the opening.
- public_share
- the share of public games that reach the opening.
- public_share_900-1100, public_share_1100-1300, public_share_1300-1500 and public_share_1500-1700
- the same share, split by rating band.
- white_score_public
- White's average score in public games.
- white_score_online2200
- the same score in online games between players rated 2200 and above.
- white_score_otb2300
- the same score in over-the-board games between players rated 2300 and above.
- online2200_games and otb2300_games
- how many games sit behind those two scores.
Scores count 1 for a win, half a point for a draw and 0 for a loss. A score above half a point favors White.
To turn a share into a natural frequency, multiply it by 100. That gives you how many games out of 100 reach the opening.
In each of the 750 rows you can compare the three scores. They show whether an opening that works between 900 and 1700 still works above 2200 online and 2300 over the board. Often they differ: what scores well in your band can depend on mistakes that stronger players rarely make.
Before drawing conclusions, check public_games and data_level. With few games behind it, a score can swing a lot from one month to the next.
