Free course. Open with e4 and learn the Italian Game plan for each Black reply: defending e4 with d3, building the centre with c3 and d3, taking the centre with d4 and gaining space with a4.
From the first move: against e4, …d5. If White trades, you recapture with …xd5 and take the queen to a5, out of reach of their pieces. You develop the bishop before …e6, give the queen a square with …c6 and know what to do when White doesn't trade.
The Accelerated Dragon: after …c6 and …cxd4, …g6 and …g7 put your bishop on the long diagonal. If White exchanges on c6, you recapture with …bxc6, towards the centre. And a plan against other frequent White replies: …e6 when the bishop comes out early to c4, and …f6 or …d5 against c3, hitting e4 at once.
The King's Indian set-up: …g6, …g7, …d6 and …O-O. You let White build a centre with pawns on c4, d4 and e4, then strike at it with the …e5 break. If White closes the centre with d5, you first slow down White's queenside advance and then attack on the kingside with …f5. And a plan against each frequent White system: …c5 against the Sämisch (the system with f3) and …e5 against the fianchetto.
Against e4, the …c6 pawn backs up …d5 and you fight for the centre from the first move without shutting in your light-squared bishop: you get it out before …e6 blocks its path. Against the Advance, …f5 and then the …c5 break, which hits White's pawn chain at its base on d4. In the Classical, …f6 challenges the knight on e4 and, if White trades, …exf6 opens the e-file so you develop quickly with your king safe. Against the Exchange, …c6 with …g4 puts pressure on d4; against the Panov, …f6 with …e6 or …g6 holds d5.
From the first move: e4, d4 and, when Black captures with …exd4, c3, the Danish Gambit. If Black accepts the pawns, your bishops on c4 and xb2 aim at f7 and g7, and you develop before winning material back. If Black declines with …d5 or answers otherwise, you take the pawn back and play with a comfortable centre. The gambit is sound: with exact defence Black equalises, but at your level White scores better than in the rest of 1.e4 e5.
From the first move: d4 and, against …d5, c4. If Black takes with …dxc4, you win the pawn back with e3 and xc4. Against …e6 you develop with c3, trade on d5 and pin the knight with g5, without falling for the Elephant Trap. Against the Slav, …c6, you stop …b5 with a4.
